Show POLHl'S BALL IS LARGEST EVENT FMIJME The Policemen's ball, which took place last night in the Eagles' home, was the pronounced success anticipated antici-pated by the officers. The event is an annual institution and was given under un-der the direction, of the Policemen's Benefit association of Ogden. It is estimated lhat approximately 500 poople were In attendance. The decorations wero exceedingly attractive; attrac-tive; lho music, furnished by tho Lillian Lil-lian Thatcher orchestra, had characteristic charac-teristic class, and. without exception, every guest had n delightful evening. The event wns a great success from ovory angle. Tho attendance was distinguished and assumed an official atmosphere. Commissioner M. L. Jjones, in charge of the city's public safely department, accompanied by Commissioner Chris Flygare were among the guests. Police Chief Thomas E'. Drowning also attended at-tended and Fire Chief George A. Graves was in tho list. Mayor T. Samuel Browning was unable to attend and illness in the family caused Judge George S. Barker of tho municipal court to send in his regrets. Among those attending from Salt Lake City were Lieut Dow Browning, son of Chief Browning and stationed at Fort Douglas; Sergt. Warden, Detec tlvo Phillips ajid Officer Middleton of the Salt Luke City police force, also were present. Thcro were scores of other out-of-town guests. Detective J. L. Hobson, president of tho Policemen's Protective association, associa-tion, announced this morning that the receipts probably amounted to $450. He had not consulted with Officer Earl Wiggins, secretary, but estimated tho benefit at that amounL He has called a meeting for Sunday afternoon, at which time the receipts will bo audited and tho money applied to the general fund of the association." |
