Show WEBER COUNTY RAS 016 CROP OF WEEOS ' ; The Weber county farm bureau addressed ad-dressed a petition to Mayor T. Samuel Browning asking the city to co-operate with the rarm bureau and the C, E. Petiigre.w, crop pest inspector, to combat com-bat the crop pest evils or the count, there being also much rruit and r large total area or egelable crops close to or within the city limits. The petition follows . "Pursuant to a motion passed at special meeting of the weed commit tee or the rber countv farm bureau representing every section of the county coun-ty and approved by County Agri ul-tural ul-tural Agent W. P. Thomas and County-Crop County-Crop Pest inspector C. B Pettigrew, we desire to tile with your honorable body the following statement and petition peti-tion Tor your consideration: ' investigations by our weed committeemen com-mitteemen and the two officials named have brought out the fact that the weed situation in Weber count and Ogden city is serious, particularly along the canals. dlKhcs. highways and vacant lots and must have imme- HintP atir.nl inn if i r i-r. r, i Kl v.v...v.. i, ii jjuinuir UrtlUCle to crops this year is to be prevented With regard to the vacant lots, we believe be-lieve that the owners who will not put this land into food crops, should be forced to keep them clear or the burdock bur-dock and other noxious weeds which infest these lots in many districts of the city. "During the pasl three oirs, weed j eradication campaigns have been j waged in the county with much success suc-cess and, although the city campaign in 1917 was started somewhat late, excellent ex-cellent results were accomplished. These campaigns have been much appreciated ap-preciated by the farmers of Weber county and requests have come to this organization from every affiliated local lo-cal bureau every town in the country that an crrort be made to have them continued this year This, with a view lo eventually overcoming the weed evil In a degree as may be permanently-possible permanently-possible The results desired cannot be accomplished without the consistent consist-ent co-operation of the city and county, coun-ty, and immediate attention. ' W e therefore petition your honor able body at this time to inaugurate a special campaign in connection with a similar one to be waged by the county coun-ty authorities, to eradicate noxious weeds in the city, putting into force your legal authontx for so doing. This should also be done as a health measure, for as you know, weed patches patch-es are prolific breeding places ror flies, mosquitoes, gnats and other insect in-sect pests. "In the proposed campaign, should your honorable body act favorably on this petition, you may be assured of the hearty co-operation of this organization, or-ganization, the county agricultural agent and the county crop pesl inspector, inspec-tor, both in an advisory and active capacity, ca-pacity, at any and all times, to make it a success." oo |
