Opponents of socialist, despite the r - election of Mayor Hoan who ran ahead of his ticket, found some solace today in the apparent defeat of the six 'M socialist candidates for aldermen-at- H large and in the re-election on the face of returns from 103 out of 146 pre concts of the non-partisan candidates for city treasurer, city controller and city attorney. Hoan's plurality apparently will be from three to six thousand. MILWAUKEE Wis.. April S. Since the inception of the campaign every leader has insisted that the loyalty loy-alty of tbe state was being judged by the nation. Tbe socialist platform i which opposes the presidents polio of peace with victory offered refuge for the ballots of the disloyal element. 1 'at riots accepted this vote as a test and on that basis the state has apparently ap-parently voted loyal by three to one. Some of the vote lost by the republicans repub-licans went to Davies because Presi-dent Presi-dent Wilson wanted him. but much of it, represented by the German element in the LaFollette taction voted for Berger, according to local analysts. Socialist Platform Fully Understood. The socialist platform which calls for withdrawal of the American forces in France and a repetition of the Bol-sheviki Bol-sheviki experiment in negotiating peace with G rmany, was fully understood under-stood throughout the state. Prominent citizens who have lelt that the state had been misrepresented were content to count the Lenroot-Davies voto as loyal; that of Berger disloyal. Berger showed menacing strength in twelve counties heard from In Burnctr, county his voto exceeded that for Dav- 1 les; in Calumet he led botb Davies and Lenroot In Dodge Marathon, Milwau- j kee and Sheboygan counties he led the field. In Manitowoc, Sheboygan and Washington bis vote equalled or exceeded the combined poll of the loy- j alist candidates. In others he was Beoond in the race. j Berger Strong in Milwaukee.
