Show oo YOUNG GIRLS FORM CLUB. Six young girls between the ages of twelve and fourteen met at the home of Venette Lee, 471 Twenty-seventn street Monday afternoon, September 2 and organized a club to be known as the S. O. T. y: girls "Sisters of the Yanks." The girls havo some very severe pledges and resolutions. They pledge to help the Red Cross in any way needed; to save, earn and give money-enough money-enough by Christmas to support and educate at least one omhan in Eurone for one year; to pick up every piece of tinfoil, peach and apricot pit on the streets as the army needs them; to attend at-tend not more than one picture show a week for six months; to refrain from eating candy for the period of thirty days. The girls wish their friends to cooperate co-operate with them in their efforts to live up to the pledges made. 0 Next Wednesday evening- tho club members are to give an ice cream social soc-ial at tho home of Almeda Newman, '472 Twenty-seventh street to which everyone is invited. Those who expect to attend the party arc asked to bring their pocketbooks, The club poem which stands for what the girls intend to do was composed com-posed and recited at the meeting yes terday Dy Miss vinette Lee, aged twelve years. The poem follows: S. O. T. Y. We are tho S. O. T. Y. girls We have the grit and vim We are going to help the Yanks This dreadful war to win. Our pledge is to our banner The glorious Red, White and Bluo We'll save to help the allied orphans And prove wo are Americans truo'. Pennies, nickles and dimes We'll put In a Christmas box What is a sack of candy to us Compared to a bun in an orphan's sox. So here is to Belgium, British and France And your orphans far over the sea With America's lielp, love and prayer Your countries will soon be free. The officers of the club were selected select-ed as follows: President, Almeda Newman; secretary, secre-tary, Marie Ashley; treasurer, Mary Bell Newman; president finance committee, com-mittee, May Browning; assistant, Kathryn Kay and Vonneite Lee. Anyone wishing to give old kid gloves or any other article which will help the Red Cross may donau the same to the club by phoning the president of the finance committee at 137 Twenty-seventh srreeL |
