Show LABOR LAUDED BY BRITANNIC SPEAKERS SALT LAKE, Sept- 3. Declaring America the only country in tho world that has dedicated one day in the year to labor, C. A. Smurthwaite, former president of the Britannic association, paid a glowing trfbute to workers of the nation at the entertainment of the organization at Liberty park last night. The great accomplishments of labor, especially since America entered en-tered the war. were stressed by Mr. Smurthwaite. H. W. Matthews, another former president of the association, in speaking speak-ing on "Labor and the War," dwelt upon the loyalty of the American workingman and the willingness with which ho is making sacrifices for the triumph of democracy. A large attendance attend-ance was present Mr. Smurthwaite presided. The association hymn, "Two Empires Em-pires by tho Sea." was sung by the assembly, as-sembly, as was "The Star-Spangled Banner." Piano solos were given by Miss Elsie Spiller and Miss Ethel Riles; vocal solos by Miss Niles, Miss Evelyn Bradbury and Miss Altje Poel-man. Poel-man. Miss Alice Spiller gave several dances. The singing" of the assembly was led by Evan Arthur. |
