Show enemy letters beiIot out Apparently Harmless Missives Sent to Germany From United States. NEW YORK, Sept. 2. Information is being transmitted to the enemy m apparently harmless letters of a social nnd personal character sent by German-owned concerns in this country lo home oinces In Germany according to a statement tonight by Alfred L. Becker, deputy state attorney general. While assorting that "at the present time, it would not be consistent with the interests of justice to make public most of the communications under investigation" in-vestigation" by his department Mr. Becker cited one example of a style which he said was in vogue, discovered discover-ed by comparison of scores of other letters. The example made public 13 that of a letter from the Pennsylvania Car company of Pittsburg to Ornstem and Koppel of Berlin, of which according accord-ing to Mr. Becker the American company com-pany is a branch. This communication lakes the form of a purely personal letter from "Arich Rothenberg," and is addressed care "Abruce, Stockholm" most messages being sent through Scandinavian- countries. The foreign office is advised that the car company referred to as ".Mr. Penaco," is "well and active." Now, although on "physicians' "phy-sicians' advice," said by Mr. Becker to mean a lawyer's instructions, letters are "not desirable." Shipments of cars aro referred to as "train rides every day" enjoyed by tho "patient" and the regularity of such shipments, Mr. Becker stated, was implied by a display dis-play of pleasure over improvement in the "patient's" health.
