Middleton, 2D59 Lincoln avenue, in tho arrest of three boys, two not nine years old and tho other under ton years of nso. Officers J. L. Hobson, A. B. Jensen and Robert Chambers took Uio throe lads in custody yesterday, yester-day, who have not been turned over to I the juvenile court, as the police are1 conducting further investigations. Tho case was ono of tho most ag-, gravatcd that has como to the attention atten-tion of tho officers. When the van-1 drlism was rcportod, they found the( furniture broken and scattered about tho house, tho dishes, cut glass and. chlnaware broken and scattered about j tho floor and an oxponsivo buffet completely com-pletely demolished. Tho only things found intact wero the, piano, a chandelier chande-lier and a davenport. The boys had brokon a great many jars of fruit and thrown the contents into the street. A sack of flour was opened and the flour wa3 scattered all over the place. Tho' had gained entrance to the house by breaking tho glass in one of tho doors and then reaching through and unlocking the door. Thoy evidently had learned that tho family living there had gono away for the winter. Detective Chambers first go traco of tho boys by following up a cluo offered of-fered when he learned that somo boys wero selling quart jars of fruit and vegetables for 5. and 10 cents each. Tho youngsters had a number of tho jars In a box on a small express wagon and, as two of tho boys hauled tho wagon, tho other lad solicited tho homes nearby. Ono woman reported tho matter to the officer nnd ho huntod up tho boys. He found that tho lads had been unsuccessful In their efforts at soiling tho goods and had broken tho jars ln nn alloy near Lincoln Lin-coln avenuo and Twenty-seventh street. Tho throo wero taken into custody and, after a few questions, they readily read-ily told how they had committed the act, but they gavo no reasons. When asked why they did not touch tho piano, ono lad stated that it was too valuable and thoy were afraid. It was also learned by tho officers that the boys bad played truant from school. The offenders wero permitted to remain at home last night, but It Is planned to turn them over to tho juvenile authorities this afternoon. |
