Show RIFLES FOR DRILL ARE GIVEN GUARD SALT LAKE, July 29. The members mem-bers of the national guard of Utah .and others now in training each evening eve-ning ntAuerbach's field to the number of 100 have now been supplied with rifles. The armory at tho city and county building is being enlarged to store the arms and other equipmenL It is desirable, according to Captain Fred .Torgonscn, In charge of recruiting, recruit-ing, that all men between tho ages of 18 and -15 years wljo wish lo enlist in the slate guard, or who arc draftees or who expect to be sent to any of the cantonments, and wish preliminary prelimi-nary training, report at the armory, basement, northwest corner of the city and county building, at 6:15 o'clock tonight The west entrance to the building will bo open. Only thoso arc desired who intend to drill regularly. The drills are held each evening from 6:30 to S o'clock, Saturdays Sat-urdays and Sundays excepted. Tonight tho regular class will be given instruction In bayoilet exercises and extended order. This will bo continued con-tinued throughout the week. For a brief period each evening members of thj class will be given command of the company to demonstrate their fitness fit-ness as non-commissioned officers. The instructors include Sergeant Iverson, with 23 years' continuous experience ex-perience In the regular army; Sergeants Ser-geants Carlson nnd Brunt and Corporal Cor-poral Carrol, all of the Third war prison pris-on company. The services of First Sergeant George Oriel also probably will be secured as the attendance apparently ap-parently justified calling more Instructors. Instruc-tors. Some of these instructors havo served In the war with Spain, In tho Philippines," Philippine Insurrection, the Cuban occupation and the Boxer uprising. -oo |
