Show LES5E mm iii EMPIRE COPPED October 1st marked the closo of tho yearly leases on the Emplro Copper mines of Mackay, Idaho., for 1917, and now leases are being entered Into, as the system of leasing portions of the mine Is to be continued, though perhaps per-haps not so extensively as In the past on account of the fact that the company com-pany Is donlg around $150,000 worth of mine Improvements, which would bo interferred with In the operation of leases on adjacent ground. Last month $26,000 was distributed anong those holding leases on tho Empire Copper mines and, taken all in all, the past year leases wero about as successfully operated as at any time In tho past. Somewhere around fifty leases wero in effect throughout tho year, with almost every leaser making money, while many made small fortunes. Among the most successful suc-cessful leases of tho year were Ruka-vina Ruka-vina & Co., William Peterson & So., Pantages & Magon, Muffott & Co., Smith & Smith, Baudrea & Lemon, Jones & Jones, and Jerkovich and Rukavina, Tho now compressor plant and tho equipment will be put in operation the end of the week, which means the work of driving the trlplocompart-ment trlplocompart-ment shaft from the Sossak level t'o the Davis tunnel, one of the biggest pieces of development work ev6r attempted at-tempted by the company and ono that will mean a great reduction In cost in future operations. oo |
