Show oo SMITH kW WESSON ENTER A PROTEST WASHINGTON, Aug. 30. In addition addi-tion to its notice to Secretary Baker, tho Smith and Wesson company have also protested formally to the war labor la-bor board upon tho decision and expressed ex-pressed a refusal to abide by it. In its lotter addressed to tho war secretary secre-tary the company asserted that its business history had been singularly free from labor troubles and that its board of trustees saw no reason "why it should abandon methods of doing business proved to be conducive of industrial peace, and high efficiency for the fantastic method outlined by the war labor board In its recommendations recommen-dations for dealing with employes." These recommendations, it concluded conclud-ed in addressing the board, "would tend to lessen if not destroy the morale mo-rale of the workers; would promote argument and dissension, would impair im-pair tho general efficiency of workers, work-ers, thereby reducing the production so badly needed by our country." The position was taken, the letter to Mr- Baker concluded, because the company was convinced that the war labor board would cause demoralization demoraliza-tion and dissatisfaction among "loyal "loy-al employes, lack of respect for the management and loss of efficiency in the production of war material." oo |
