Mem- H orlal day took on a deeper meaning in H Pittsburgh today as thousands filed H past the bitfr upon which the body of 1 tho lato George W. Guthrie, United H States ambassador to Japan, lay in H state in Memorial hall. Citizens of all H ages and stations passed in continuous H procession for nine hours. It -was H Pittsburgh's tributo to tho man who H once served as the city's mayor and H who had been termed "tho city's fore- H most citizen." Tho body arrived hero H yesterday after the 8,000 mile trip H from Toklo, whore Mr. Guthrlo died H In March. H The casket, surrounded by a mlll- H tary guard, rested upon a flag draped H catafalque about which were heaped H many floral tributes, Including H wreatlis from the Japanese emperor, H tho Japanese ambassador and high of- H flcials of the United States govorn- H ment Hl Funeral services will be held tomor- H row afternoon In Calvary Protestant H Episcopal church. |
