Show Amalgamated Sugar Company s j New Plant at Srnithfield Amalgamated Sugar Plant, Near Smithfield, Nears Completion' Constmction work on the immense new plant of the Amalgamated Sugar company near Smithfield, Utah, is pro gressing rapidly, practically all of the steel work having been completed during dur-ing the past week. Large tanks, piping and heavy machinery ma-chinery for the sugar factory are being be-ing installed as the steel work progresses pro-gresses and in the near future tho work of building exterior walls will bo started. The brick construction for the sugar warehouse, adjoining the plant, has been completed, heavy steel girders havo been placed and roofing will be started soon. Another building build-ing to bo used for tho steam plant, limo kilns and similar apparatus is nearly completed. This now sugar factory and also the plant at Paul, Idaho, will bo completed complet-ed during the summer months and will be ready for operation as soon as beets aro dug this fall. They will bring the total number of Amalgamated factories factor-ies to eight, tho other plants being at Ogdcn, Logan, Lewiston and Brigham, Utah; Twin Falls and Burley, Idaho. Splendid crop condition reports are being received at the field department offices in the Eccles building, indicating indicat-ing that tho beets are growing well and that practically tho entire acreage contracted is now in cultivation. As a result of the increased acreage there will be a heavy demand for workers in the beet fields, to handle the thinning, thin-ning, the cultivation and irrigation. |
