AMSTERDAM, May 31, via London, 12:10 p. m. Dr. Gustav A. Grose, leader lead-er of the German National league, has been elected president of the lower house of tho Austrian parliament, according ac-cording to a Vienna dispatch. In his opening addresB Dr. Gross promised I freedom of speech and impartiality in I' debates. He urged the house to sec to it that the expectations of Austria's enemies that great dissension would develop, prove a disappointmenL "We are one in our unshakable de-' i termination," he said, "to continue the i fight which was forced on us to the greatly desired honorable peace which will guarantee our safety and Independence Inde-pendence in the future. At the same time nothing is further from our. thoughts than suppression of other na-j tions." i After tho policies of various parties had been stated by their representatives, representa-tives, Premier Count Clam-Martinic said the government would make a declaration in regard to all the questions ques-tions raised, in one of the first sittings sit-tings after the speech from the throne.
