Storrs. Warden Storrs took charge with a new chief deputy warden, but aside from this no further changes in the personnel of tho staff have yet been made, except that Deputy Henry Tag-gart, Tag-gart, who went out with Warden Pratt, has not yet been replaced by a new appointment. Chief Andrew Ure, who was deputy warden under Warden Pratt for twelvo years, went out at 5 o'clock Saturday night, and Absalom G. Dyer, a veteran guard of the prison, becamo chief, deputy warden to succeed him. Warden Storrs announced yesterday that an appointment to fill tho va. cancy caused by the resignation of Deputy Taggart would bo made within with-in a fow days. There were formalities attending the turning over of tho prison by Warden War-den Pratt to Warden Storrs Tho retiring re-tiring warden simply moved out and gave place to the incoming executive head of the institution. Warden Pratt leaves the state pris-on pris-on only to take up a new position this morning with the Oregon Short Line Railroad company. It is learned from authoritative sources that he will become chief of the secret service of tho Short Line system, a position that has been created for him. Mr. Pratt was connected with the railroad before he becamo warden of the pris-on. pris-on. His new position with the company com-pany is considered a highly important one. Before he left yesterday Warden Pratt made a short talk to the prisoners pris-oners in the chapel of the prison, urging urg-ing them to bo model prisoners and to conduct themselves under the new warden as they had conducted them, selves under his regime. |
