Although a number num-ber of track aspirants at the Brlgham Young university have been paddling around the cinders for the past week, Coach Roberts' official call for B. V. D. candidates will not be Issued until tomorrow to-morrow morning. A sensus of the material ma-terial available has not been taken, but Howard Blazzard, the college's weight man, who also happens to be manager of the track squad, has revealed re-vealed tho information that at least twenty field and track artists will be on hand for the first practice. Only about half of last year's squad have returned, but .among them aro several whose ability has already been given the acid test. Orton Durham, the college's star polo vaulter, will again be out for this event. For the sprints tho college has three men who should make good. They are Jack Gurr, Glon Simmons and Eugeno Stow-ell. Stow-ell. Howard Blazzard will again bo a standby in the weight events. Clinton Clin-ton Larson, holder of tho state high jump record, will again perform and his work will bo seconded by that of Preston McDonald. All of these old war horses have been relatively Idle since tho weather has been too disagreeable for outdoor work, and the college gymnasium lacks tho facilities for very effective indoor training. Little is known yet of tho abilities abil-ities of tho new men. At the founders day. track meet last autumn. Frank Oberhansley, from Payson, did some good work In the sprints and Emll Nelson, from Mount Pleasant, mado a fine showing in the pole vault and broad jump. Partridge, a newcomer from Montana, did some good work in the high jump. These men should be a big help this year to Coach Roberts and fill tho gaps -left by some of the athletes who did not return to school., |
