Show oo SCHOOL TERMS ARE TO BE GHANGED I The state school calendar will probably prob-ably be rearranged for next year, according ac-cording to A. C. Rees, secretary of the Utah Manufacturers' association. His belief Is based on the result of a survey of the state made recently as to labor conditions. The data was procured pro-cured from several counties in the state. From the information, he believes be-lieves that the date for the opening of the schools will necessarily be set later in the fall to enable the boys to help with harvesting the crops. The investigation of conditions was made at the Instigation of Dr. E. G. Gowans, I state superintendent of public instruction. instruc-tion. A questionalre was sent out through the state asking as to conditions of labor. It showed that the demand is the greatest for laborers under 18 years of age between September 1 and October 15. Because of "the war children chil-dren will be called upon in greater number's than ever to help maintain the state's industries and for that reason rea-son it Is thought the dates of opening the schools will have to be postponed. In order to give the children their full term's work in school, the time taken from fall will be added to the spring term, thus maintaining the full nine months' schooling. |
