Show I THE STOBY OF " I "PSiTHES" j Opens at the Alhambra July 3, V Continuing Three Days. Ht "Panthea" l The story opens in Moscow. Pan- H Ihea Romoff, a famous pianist, is giv- M ing a recital to a few connoisseurs. At H the completion of her recital Panthea V is showered with approval. A great B Jmpressario, the Daron de Duistor. has m been regarding her with eyes of de- H sire. He congratulates her warmly m and expressed a desire to take her to H her apartment She turns to her old Hj music-mastor, asking his permission, H which he readily grants, saying that H the Baron is one of the most influ- H ential men in Russia. The Baron then Hj escorts her to a carriage waiting out- Hl side. On the way home he voices his Hl obnoxious interest in Panthea and she M declines his further escort, entering M her apartment alone. She leaves the H Baron in ill-humor. We next see Pan- H thea's brother, Ivan Romoff, a Nihilist Hl of high order, conspiring with mera- H bers of his party against the present M political regime. Panthea, having left M the Bai-on, enters the apartment. Ob- H serving the gathering, she becomes H fearsome for her brother's safety and H expresses a wish that he cease his Ni- Hl hilistlc activities. With much fervor H the gathering points out to her the H reason for their existence. H Sitting moodily in his carriage, the H Baron strikes upon a plan to subdue H Panthea and orders his coachman to H drive to the office of the prefect of HL police. The Baron calls upon the pre- H feet, a great personal friend of his, and H ! expresses a desire to trump up evi- H ( dence against Panthea, sufficient to H put her into the hands of the law and H enable him, the Baron, to break her Hi will by offering assistance of escape. H The prefect, in consideration of the friendship, agrees to arrest Panthea H' and dispatches agents. In Panthca's H' apartment the Nihilist meeting is sur- H- prised by the arrival of the agents, Hj who not expecting this rich haul, are HL. amazed at finding positive evidence H' against Panthea. A panic ensues. someone is killed aud Panthea is arrested, ar-rested, while her brother escapes, after af-ter having killed ono of the soldiers, whose death is attributed to Panthea, as she is found gun in hand. Materia) evidence has been collected during the raid and with this and the prisoners the agents come beforo the prefect. He Is most amazed at having unexpectedly unexpected-ly fallen upon an enemy of the government, govern-ment, and orders Panthea and tho other Nihilists to bo cast into prisdn. As tho Baron enters the prefect's office of-fice he is greeted with the information informa-tion that Panthea has killed a soldier. sol-dier. He is so startled at tho receipt of this news that ho suffers a heart attack and the prefect then leads him out. As tho Baron goes out he asks permission to see Panthea, which Is denied, as she is now a real prisoner on a genuino charge. Next comes Panthca's escape from this temporary prison, brought about with the aid of a guard who is a lover of music, a secret sec-ret admirer of Panthca's and at heart a Nihilist, etc. See this wonderful picture at the Alhambra. oo |
