Show oo UTAH RESIDENTS SEE THE CANAL Salt Lake, April 20 After a visit of two months in the canal zone and in the republic of Panama a half-doz-jen prominent men of Utah and other J sections of the west have returned ! Those in the party were John Q Crltchlow and George N. Lawrence, Salt Lake- former Senator R. W Sew of Richfield; Fred G Taylor, Ogden. secretary and treasurer of the Amalgamated Amal-gamated Sugar company; R. E. Si hreek of Evanston, Wye Ml in the party are interested In land in Panama and for most of them it was the first trip to the little isth mian republic The trip was for the purpose of inspecting the property of the Chiriqui Land & Sugar company, com-pany, located in the district of Alanje, province of Chiriqui. not far from the gulf of Charz Azue Those in the party inspected the canal and called on General Goethals. They were also entertained by President Pres-ident Porros of the republic and by Rudolfo Chlari, who expects to be chosen president at the next election The officials of Panama treated the isitors very kindly and very hospitably hospit-ably and impressed on them the de sire they had to see American capital capi-tal Invested in enterprises for the development of Panama The visitors are very enthusiastic ! about the productivity of the soil of Panama. They declare that it Is probably the richest soil in the world. Two crops of corn are grown each year by the farmers of Panama. |
