IP wW if W H M j" URLXG the fifth and sixth weeks of ) tljc amazing reduction of ruy model, 9 Mrs. Eva 'Lane, from 20(2 pounds to 1GS' pounds I gave her no new oxcr- 9 cises. The sixteen exercises which I had al- 9 ready given her at the rate of four new ones 9 each week she practiced during the fifth and 9 sixth weeks' work. As you will remember, 9 with each week's new set of exercises Mrs. 9 Lane kept up those of the preceding week or 9 weeks, so that by the beginning of the fifth 9 week none of the exercises given her were 9 forgotten. In fact, by the beginning of the 9 fif l" week Mrs. Lane was able to do every 9 one of the sixteen exercises at Iea5t fifty W times and many of them up to 200 times. 9 9 She not only could do them, but she did 9 them, and she got real joy out of doing them. 9 During the last two weeks' work she went 9 thiough the entire sixteen exercises at least 9 three times a day, in the morning, in ihe aft- M crnoou, nnd at night. m The muscle soreucss which she felt during f the earlier 6tage of her work had disappeared almost entirely by the beginning of the fifth week. However, 1 had my model continue with the shower bath after each period of exercising, ex-ercising, always finishing off with as cold water as she could stand, and following it with a vigorous rubbing with a Turkish towel to prevent colds. The fifth week netted Mrs. Lane a loss of six and one-half pounds, and the sixth week she lost five and one-hnlf, making a total loss at the end of the six weeks of thirty-six pounds. Mrs. Lane's diet for the last two weeks changed little from that of the previous week. For breakfast: Half orange or half grapefruit, grape-fruit, unsweetened ; soft boiled egg without butter ; small dry roll or dry piece of toast ; coffee or tea (without cream .or sugar). Lunch: Small bowl of clear broth; all she wanted of lettuce or cucumbers or celery, prepared pre-pared without oil or cream dressing. Dinner: Three ounces of steak, or chicken, or roast beef, or fish ; generous helping of sprouts, or onions, or asparagus, or string beans, prepared without butter or cream or oils ; coffee or tea without sugar or cream. At the beginning of my work of reducing Mrs. Lane I had to buy a size 50 middy blouse for hor; anything smaller would not permit of freedom of movement. At the end of the fifth week she was wearing a size 42 blonae, which allowed of ample room for easy movements. A feature of the reduction which tickled Mrs. Lane nnd which would be equally gratifying grati-fying to any woman with a spark of the eternal eter-nal feminine in her makeup was the fact that she found nt the end of her six weeks' f work that a new pair of shoes she had bought beforo she stnrted to reduce were too large for her after the loss of her thirty-six pounds. From her ankles Mrs. Lane removed an Inch of girth and her instep showed a noticeable decrease in size. You can see in her photograph, Illustrated herewith, that Mrs, Lane's loss of flesh had K no 111 effects on her health or disposition. Her face and her ncct are without a wrinkle, as a l result of hor constant attention to the valuo of massaging them daily. Her color Is splendid splen-did and her skin in taut and firm. Mrs. Lane never missed a day of her household house-hold duties during the time of reduction and at tbo end of the sixth week she had made plana to move. She reported to me at the -end oi the- "week after moving and said she had never felt better In her, life. I heard recently of a woman who had gone on a milk diet For thirty days she had no othor food than milk. She claimed to have reduced eighteen pounds in the month's treatment. treat-ment. Again, I heard of another woman who went on an apple diet, eating nothing but apples, and she claimed to have lost eight ponnd9 in two weeks. Neither of these women was doing anything in the way of exercise to build up tho muscles, blood, bone, skin, uud new tissues. ' The H, chances are ten to one that when they got J (through with the apple and milk diet they were neither good to look at nor well in body. .L.. A. great many of my readers may not have Ca . j . . I cannot guarantee a satisfactory satis-factory result unless you arc willing to work and to diet as she did. ut you cau accomplish accom-plish results in getting rid of your flesh gradually grad-ually and in a perfectly healthy way if you are willing to go without the foods that are fat producing, and at the same time build up your bijdy with a certain amount of exercise. BLJ '- - v - " X&m " -- A 'J81 The above are but a few of the most common fat producing and anti-fat foods. A list of foods Jl you should avoid and those you need not avoid is given on this page. 4H You may rid yourself of a couple of pounds a week with little effort by cutting out of your diet the fattening foods. I will givo you a liBt of foods for you to keep in mind when you are preparing or ordering a meal to which tho " touch me not " label should be appended if you are In earnest about reducing. Bacon, ham, pork, and the fat of auy meat. Cereals, breakfast foods, bread, and biscuits; potatoes, corn, rice, macaroni, lentils; milk, butter, cream, cheese; rich gravies, grease of any kind or olive oils; pastry, rich desserts, cake, ico cream, soda water, chocolates, bonbons, bon-bons, and alcohol in any form whatever. When you read over the above list It probably prob-ably occurs to you that thcro Is nothing left to eat. Which is not eo at all, and I shall give you another list to prove my assertion. The following things you may cat: Ronst beef, steak, mutton, lamb; in fact, all kinds of meat except pig iu nnv form; game of every description, and fish, lobsters, oysters, clums, etc; nearly every kind of fruit; salad of most, vegetables without cream, butter, but-ter, and oil dressings. Mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, pickles, olivrs, atriug beans, Bpinach, cabbage, turnip, cauliflower, l?rus- i scl sprouts, beets, carrots squashA endives, h artichokes, radishes, lettuce, parsnips, tomatoes toma-toes onions, asparagus, and almost all other green vegetables. There -aic a few precautions you must take, along with the diet aiuKa certain amount of daily exercise. You must step lively. When you begin be-gin to find yourself looking for a chair to sit down on -&M$$2 when you could just as 96 well walk ; when you are tempted to remain In walk ; when you nre tempted to remain in bed in the mornings when you have had all the sleep you really require, and when you get the daily nap habit you better mrtfctt up your mind that you are going to stand firm against every lazy temptation, because they add flesh. Remember, too, that when you eat of the foods that are mentioned above as nonfat producing you must bo reasonably moderate in your eating of them, eating only when you are hungry. Do not drink with your meals, because you can get along with much les3 food if you chew It slowly and properly Instead In-stead of washing it down half masticated witn water or wiuc or beer.
