Show Mini OF IE CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY , The members of the Childrens Aid Society held their annual meeting, Friday, April 21st, at the home of the president, Mrs. James Canse. It has been the custom of the society to have the annual meeting an open one mat me public and tne friends of the society might hear the reports and keep in touch with the work of the organization and- know what their do- I nations are doing for the neglected and unfortunate children of the city and county. The open meeting was postponed this year, out of respect to our late secretary, Katherine G. Car-nahan, Car-nahan, who passed away March 25th. The report of the year In part, follows: fol-lows: I "Each year the work of the Children's Chil-dren's Aid Society increases with new I responsibilities and opportunities, it creeps Into the heart of some to increase in-crease their donations to the society. "Our .free dispensary has been moved to the northeast corner of Twenty-fifth street and Washington avenue, upstairs over Misch Drug store, the use of the rooms being donated do-nated by Mayor Heywood. On each Saturday, from 2 to 5 o'clock, one or two ladles of the society, with a trained nurse, are in attendance. The card system is kept and a complete record is on file of even' case inves tigated, or in any way helped. The nurse first examines the child, it is then taken to a physician or dentist as the case requires. The doctors are untiring in the attention they donate do-nate to these unfortunate waifs and the druggists do their part equally. "This year we have had nearly all the diseases of children, including operations op-erations for enlarged tonsils, adenoids, ade-noids, broken arms, infantile paralysis paraly-sis and hair lip. We have furnished milk and prepared food for sick babies. ba-bies. Last fall, we were supplied with fruit and vegetables from farmers, farm-ers, who desired to do their part in the work in this way This we stored and gave out asneeded "Through the kindness of one of our canning factories, we have had all of the canned goods we could make use of. "From April 15, 1915, to April 15, 1916, inclusive, the dispensary assisted assist-ed eighty-one families and 270 children. chil-dren. Eleven hundred ninetj'-five articles ar-ticles of clothing have been distributed, distribut-ed, 24S pairs of old shoes have been repaired and fitted. 126 pairs of new shoes have been bought, braces for deformed feet have been bought for two children, also eyeglasses have been fitted as needed. |
