Show CREATEST ORATORIO, THEME OF SERMON ON SUNDAY The oratorio is called "the noblest form of musical art," and has filled a large place in the world's music. In its modern form an oratorio is a musical musi-cal setting to a sacred story in a stylo more or less dramatic, the chorus being be-ing accompanied by an orchestra or full organ, and preceded hy an overture. over-ture. It grew out of the miracle and morality plays of the Middle Ages as more music was Introduced in place of the acting parts, until San Filippo Nerl developepd the muslcalielements in his services in the oratory of his church in Rome, from which fact such productions took the name of ora torlos. Some of the greatest oratorios are "Tho Messiah," by Handel, The "Creation," "Crea-tion," by Hayden, the "Last Judgment," Judg-ment," by Spohr, and "Elijah," by Mhdelsshon. However, there is a greater oratorio yet to he sung and what this oratorio will be is to be the theme of the sermon in the First '"Methodist church, Sunday night. It will be the first of a series of sermons ser-mons on "The World's Greatest Masterpieces," the first three of which will be, "The World's Greatest Oratorio."
