Show oo ORDINANCE PASSED FOR ELK PROTECTION. Ely, New, Feb. 23. In accordance with an effort being made to protect elk and thereby get a consignment of the animals from the government, the board of county commissioners, on petition pe-tition signed by more than fifty resident resi-dent taxpayers, has passed an ordinance ordin-ance making It unlawful to kill or molest mo-lest any elk in this county before May 1, 1926. Those behind the movement hope to get every county In the state to take similar action, thereby giving the protection pro-tection to the animals demanded by the government and making the protection pro-tection effective all over the state until un-til such time as the legislature meets, when a bill will be introduced to properly prop-erly cover the subject. There is no statutory provision in Nevada prohibiting prohib-iting the killing of elk and consequently consequent-ly no protection can be assured until an ordinance is passed by each county. coun-ty. This it is hoped to accomplish by April 1, when application will be made for a consignment of the animals for Nevada ranges. |
