WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY DANCE Tuesday, February 22, In the Eagles' hall a Washington's birthday ; dancing danc-ing party willbe given by the drill team and the event is being looked forward to with pleasure. A special dance program will be arranged, appropriate ap-propriate . to the occasion, for which Miss Lillian Thatcher's orchestra will furnish music. CHAUTAUQUA CIRCLE. The readers of the C. L. S. C. spent a pleasant evening at the homo of Mr. Seip, 2300 Jackson and Twenty-third Twenty-third street. Lively discussion followed the review re-view of the different chapters of Changing America by E. A. Ross, given giv-en by Rev. Brainerd, Mr. Brummitt, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Craft and Mrs. Richmond. Fourteen members and seven guests were present Mr. Don Carlos Ellis, of Washington, Washing-ton, D. C, publicity man of the Forestry For-estry Department, was among the guests of the evening. SHOWERS PLANNED. Miss Ellen Wright and Mr. Joseph Arrowsmith will be the complimented guests at a parcel shower this evening even-ing and Monday evening Mrs. Cecil Hellewell, 323 Thirty-second street, will entertain in their honor. Miss Wright and Mr. Arrowsmith will be married In the Salt Lake Temple, Wdnesday, February 16. BIRTHDAY PARTY. Little Dorothy Pidcock entertained fourteen of her little friends at a birthday party in honor of her sixth birthday on Friday, February llth. Games were playedand music furnished fur-nished by those present, after which a dainty lunch was served. Those present were: MiBses Rhea Greenwell, Alva Greenwell, Delias Gibbons, Avryl Gibbons, Margurette LeMasters, Sarah LoMasters, Lucille Pidcock, Dorothy Pidcock; Masters Billie Fleetwood, Allen Bucher, Francis Fran-cis Bucher, T. D LeMasters, Jr., Virgil Gunardson, Kenneth Pidcock. IN COMPLIMENTTO VESTA SPAUN Miss Vesta. Spaun, whose marriage to C. E. Farr of this city will occur in March, was the inspiration for a pretty event, last evening, a china shower, at which Mrs. Frank Stephens. Ste-phens. 440 Twenty-eighth street, was hostess. The Stephens' home was especially pretty with myriads of pink and white cupids and heartB and festoons of smllax. In the dining room where a delicious course luncheon waB served, the table, was attractlvo with festoons of cuplda and hearts intertwined inter-twined with Bmllax radiating from tho chandelier to four corners of the table. Tho central decorative piece was a "sea of matrimony" with tiny light houses. At each corner of the table were placed the miniature guides to wayfarers of the sea. The guests were received from 8 until 11 o'clock and brought with them many lovely pieces of china, which were presented to the bride-to-be. Festive in fraternity banners, pen- I nants and flowers, tho entire mez- zanine floor of tho Hotel Utah, with tho ballroom, drawing room and banquet ban-quet rooms, was given over, to the annual junior prom of tho University of Utah last evening. In addition to tho light refreshments served In the various booths during the evening, a late supper was served in the main dining room of tho hotel. The dance began at 9 o'clock, and tho grand march at 10 o'clock was led by Governor and Mrs. William Spry and Mayor and Mrs. W. Mont Ferry. The dance programs were particularly artistic. The covers were of gray suede, lettered in gold, bearing bear-ing the crest of the university, alBo in gold. Red and white pencils were suspended to red and white cords. The programs were simply slipped Into the covers, and when romoved the cover formed a dainty card case, serving for a souvenir of the junior prom of 191G. , Supper was served from 11:30 until 1 o'clock. Hawaiian entertainers amused the guests during supper, and the troubadours furnished music In the supper room. Hawkln's orchestra gave the danco music. The junior prom committee comprised com-prised Louis Gardner, Miss Evelyn Tempest, Miss Agnes Bowen, Miss Mary Godbe, Rex Williams and Harlan Har-lan Walker. The class officers are Edward Banning, president; Miss Vera Foul-ger, Foul-ger, vice president; Harold Groes-beck Groes-beck .treasurer; Desdemona Stott, secretary. The patrons were Governor and Mrs. William Spry, Mayor and Mrs, W. Mont Ferry, President and Mrs. J. T. Kingsbury, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Riter and Mr. and Mrs. John Jensen. About 600 were In attendance. Among tho Ogden people at the "Prom" were Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Dee, the Misses Esther Seppich," Edith Johnson, Kathrlne Hoag, Helen Towne, Edna Towne, Lillian Wright, Marian Wright, Zina PIngree, Rae Barlow, Esther Shurtliff, Katherlne McKay, Kathryn Volker, Marian Read, Ruth Douglass, Vera Tracy, Ellen Scow-croft, Scow-croft, Dorothea Browning and Ruth Wattis, and Messrs. Sumner P. Nelson, Nel-son, Lawrence Farr, Leland Read, Peter Kaslus, Sterling Price, Royal Eccles, Orson Douglass, Alonzo West and Fred Frorer.. PLAN ELABORATE PARTY. The local Brotherhood of Engineers and Firemen is making arrangements for a grand ball in the Berthana hall to take place in the near future. The exact time has not been decided on but the committee In charge will select se-lect a date shortly. It is planned to make the ball one of the leading social so-cial events of its kind of the season. The arrangement committee is composed com-posed of Jack Harbertson, Joseph Westover and J. Rowse. CHILDREN OF MARY PARTY. One of the prettiest and most select se-lect affairs of tho winter social season sea-son was enjoyed by about 250 young people last evening in the Knights of Pythias lovely dance hall where the Children of Mary of St. Joseph's Catholic church entertained at their annual dancing party. The hall was made more attractlvo with flowers and all who were favored with an invitation in-vitation to the event enjoyed the dancing to its fullest extent. In addition addi-tion to the main entertainment, delicious de-licious refreshments were served. MRS. DR. WM. PAINE HOSTESS. The Up Early and Late Sewing Club were the guests of Mrs. Dr Wm. Paine last evening. Following tho usual needlework, the hostess served refreshments. VALENTINE TEA. The Women's Auxiliary of the Episcopal Epis-copal church will give a Valentine tea Monday afternoon from 2:30 to 5 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Louis N. Meld, 71S Twenty-third street. DANCE. Next Thursday the Woodmen will entertain In their hall at a dancing party. |
