Show 'IE GSLLOPES" ' II TOE ISIS" Splendid Attraction Will Be Shown Here Sunday and Monday. "The Galloper," the latest of Pathe's Gold Rooster Plays to be released, re-leased, Is worthy of the honor thus given it. Richard Harding Davis, the author, is too vell known both as author au-thor and dramatist to require any commedit. therefore let it suffice to say that "The Galloper" Is written in his' best style and enjoyed a fine run on the stage. Georgo Brackett Seitz adapted it for a five reel comedy drama. Two things In particular strikes the observer as he views this fine productionfirst pro-ductionfirst the excellent direction apparent in every scene, of Donald Mackenzie, the producer, and secondly the really brilliant work done by the famous comedian, Clifton Crawford, in the title role. A character not In the original play, that of "The Unknown," has been Inserted by Mr. Mackenzie with excellent results. "The Unknown" Un-known" is a Turkish spy, and he adds wonderfully to the humor of the play He was Mr. Mackenzie's own conception concep-tion and forms merely one of a number num-ber of examples of the producer's care and ability for appearing in this his first picture. Without detracting from the fine ability shown by the rest of this really excellent cast, second sec-ond honors to Melville Stewart and Jessie Ralph, the first mentioned playing the part of a much married correspondent and the latter as a rich and unlovely widow with matrimonial matri-monial designs. Fanla Marinoff, Rliye Alexander and Sam Ryan give worthy support. The story deals with a divorced war correspondent who divides his time between dodging alimony hunting hunt-ing divorced wives and various creditors. credi-tors. As a means of relief from hl3 financial troubles he makes love to the brewer's widow, proposes and Is accepted. War breaks out between Turkey and Greece, and he seizes the opportunity to dodge his troubles and fiancee who does not appeal to him to go out as a war correspondent to Greece. It happens that a young American millionaire at the same time is sailing for Africa to hunt big game. On tho same steamer are two charming girls who are going to the, front as Rod Cross nurses. One of them turns out to bo the war correspondent's corres-pondent's last wife; the millionaire Immediately falls in love with the other. Arriving in Greece the war correspondent finds dodging his former form-er wife too strenuous and resigns his position. The millionaire offers to take his name and act as correspondent correspon-dent for him. From then on there are all sorts of comical misunderstandings misunderstand-ings and situations. Scene after Is a riot of laughter up to the very end where misunderstandings are cleared up, the millionaire is accepted by the Red. Cross nurse, and the war correspondent reunited with his former form-er wife. Despite the fact that "Tho Galloper" Gallop-er" Is primarily a comedy, there is plenty of drama and much thrill to It. Pathe Is to be congratulated on Its latest Gold Rooster Play, and Donald Mackenzie upon the production of what will undoubtedly be one of the big successes of the year. |
