Show THE MASSACRE OF AMERICANS. Now is the time for President Wilson Wil-son to prove he has backbone, and firmness. The massacre of Americans Ameri-cans near Santa Ysabel, 50 miles from Chihuahua, Mexico, calls for strong action by this government. A large Carranza force was within striking distance of the guerillas who killed the Americans. If, after the news reached them, tho Carranza troops failed to attempt to capture and punish the brigands, then the de facto government should be made to answer to the United States. Our jolicy In relation to Mexico has lacked vigor. There must be behind every declaration some show of earnest ear-nest resolve. We must not allow the Mexicans with Carranza or 'the guerilla guer-illa chiefs to believe the United States has at its head a man who will not strike however great may be the provocation. .stand that a great and irreparable c:iine has been committed against I the citizens of this country by an ele-Iment ele-Iment of the discordant forces of Mexico, Mex-ico, and he, as the recognized head of that government, must display energy en-ergy and determination in punishing those who have massacred the Americans. Amer-icans. If Carranza fajls to consider the offense of sufficient importance to call for a supreme effort to vindicate vindi-cate the great mass of the people of Mexico, then the United States should proceed to do that which Carranza fails to do. |
