Show PUMP ILLS BEING DUG ON FARIAS OF TBE COUNTY Under the general supervision of W. Preston Thomas, Weber county agricultural agent, an experimental pump well is being sunk on J. L. Rohson's farm In Plain City, prosent developments being encouraging. The woll is eight feet in diameter and is now down to a depth of about fifteen feet. A good supply of water has been encountered and it is expected that the quantity will bo greatly increased in-creased at greater depth. The well Is being incased with concrete con-crete staves used in the construction of silos, the weight of the material being sufficient to cause the staves to follow the shovelers as they dig down. A sharp steel shoe has been attached to the lower concrete staves which readily cuts Kb way through the clay and sand. Just how deep the well will be dug has not yet been determined, deter-mined, Mr. Thomas says, but It is planned to go to a depth whore the best results will be obtained. By means of a pump, the water encountered is removed from the bottom of the well which enables tho shovelers in high topped rubber boots, to make progress. After the woll Is completed a pump will be put to work to raise the water to tho surface sur-face for Irrigation purposes, and it a supply sufficient to warrant the ex-penditure ex-penditure is secured, it is very likely that a number of other wells of like character will bo dug. no |
