Jan Crt Found guilty of a statutory charge, Harry Shaffer was sentenced Wednesday Ln the Third district court to a term in the state prison Society has yet to determine what shall bo the sentence of Helen Shaffer, wife of the man whoso punishment pun-ishment and moral regeneraUon the state has undertaken. Shaffer's sentence insures him food, clothes and a roof over his head. It made these necessities of life well-nigh well-nigh impossible of acquirement so far as the woman is concerned Sev-pral Sev-pral mouths ago Mrs. Shaffer underwent under-went an operation for cancer. From shoulder to shoulder across her cheat the lance of the surgeon traversed and severed the flesh in the search for the minutest roots of the maliK-nant maliK-nant growth The operation was one of charity, performed by two Salt Lake surgeons. Mrs. Shaffer calls frequently at the office of one of the Burgeons for treatment of what threatens to be a renewal of the cancerous can-cerous growth under her right arm. It is not the hope of life that keeps the light of courage glowing In the afflicted woman's eyes. The house stands intact at 144 West Third South street, the rent upon it unpaid for a mouth past. The street awaits the mother and child. When Harry Shaffer wedded the woman desolated by his imprisonment be swore tc love and care for her. The state has found him guilty of an of fense against society and the stat has imposed upon him the prescribed penalty. In the meantime the wife and child are in desperate need of money, clothing and food. |
