Dec. 10 Report from the winter herring fishery off the west cnast of New Fonndland. now in mid-senson, Indicate that the catch will be fairly large In a good year about lOO.Ofln barrN of the fish are taken in the three centers cen-ters of the industry, Bonne Bay. Bay of Islands and Bay St. Georce Of this approximately two-thirds goes to the United States and the remaining third tO Canada. The herring are used partly for fnorl purposes, when smoked, but are chiefly chief-ly valuable as bait for the cod fisheries.
