The Euro pean war will be a big help to the rnerican beet sugar manufacturing industry', according to a statement gh-en gh-en out here tonight, following a meeting of the United States Sugnr Manufacturing association, as embodying em-bodying the views of Its members. The European output for 1914-15 will be about 5.500,000 tonB, instead of the estimated 8.000,000 tons, the statement said, "in consequence of which the rise in the price of sugar has given the domestic producers a respite. "Because of low wages paid abrond. all members declare that under normal nor-mal conditions sugar cannot be produced pro-duced in competition with Cuban or oven European sugar," says the statement, state-ment, 'and are unable to see why sugar, which has always been a dutiable duti-able product, should have been mado the goat of the Underwood tariff." Tabulations were presented to show that crops planted in fields previously given over to beet cultivation show gains in yield, cereals Improving 43 to 62 per cent.
