Show YOUNG WOMAN SEEKS TO JOIN ARMY FOR SERVICE IN MEXICO Disguised as a Man and Giving Her Name as Nick Williams, the Applicant Gets Weighed When the Army Sergeant Becomes Suspicious and Discovers That He Is Dealing With a Girl She Desired to Fight for Uncle Sam in Mexico. Sergeant Victor McCord of the United States army recruiting station on Twenty-fifth street in Ogden had a novel experience this" morning when two young Greeks entered his office and requested the privilege of enlisting in the army in order to serve in case of war with Mexico. They gave their names as Nick Williams Wil-liams and Tom Ossunako and their ages as 24 years. They were placed on the scales to determine whether they were of the required -weight and were also called upon to pass the regular reg-ular physical examination. "Tom" passed the examination all right but "Nick" wa6 light in weight and did not appear to be of sufficient suffi-cient height to fill the requirements of army life. He was told that further fur-ther investigations would be necessary neces-sary before he could take out the first papers. The applicants both demurred demur-red to this proposition, saying that they did not care to be separated and that, if both could not be accepted at the same time, neither would enlist.. en-list.. The sergeant's suspicions were aroused and, before the two young fellows left the office it was known that "Nick" was a girl. Mr. McCord said that the applicants appli-cants put up a pretty good story and that, had it not been for a few suspicious sus-picious actions, they might have passed. pass-ed.
