Bonfires tvere flickering through the haze in ;opterfleld lu the last half or the thirteenth inning yesterday when Ty Cobb drove a triple to the scoreboard which counted two runs and, a moment mo-ment later, came home with the tally which enabled Detroit to take the opening game of the season from St. Louis, 3 to 2. It was a pitchers' battle to the end. Neither team scored .until the final inning when reckless baseball gave St. Louis two runs and Inspired a Tige? rally, which brought back memories memo-ries of championship days. For twelve innings the struggle was any-bodys. any-bodys.
