Show AMERICAN LEAGUERS WIN. OPENING GAME New York, N. Y., April 15. New York's major league baseball season was opened auspiciously yesterday, Frank Chanco's men defeating the Athletics 8 to 2. It was the first time in years that the local American leaguers had won their opening game. The game was New York's all tho way, Bush being driven from the mound after two stormy innings in which he yielded five hits, four runs and four base of balls. Boardman, a young left-hander from Brown university, uni-versity, who replaced Bush, also was hit hard. The opening day crowd was one of the largest that ever has seen an American league game in New York. Chance's men won the game in the first inning on Hartzell's double, Walsh's single, passes to Williams and .Holden, the former's steal and hits by Cook and Peckinpaugh, four runs counting. McHale held the Athletics Ath-letics hitless for five Innings. Score. Philadelphia. AB. R. H. PO. A. E F.
