Show NEW LOCOMOTIVES FOR GOULD ROADS SL Louis, Mo., April 16. Delivery of the twenty-five freight locomotives purchased by the Missouri Pacific-Iron Pacific-Iron Mountain In January has just been completed, the last of the engines en-gines having been turned over to the company atSt. Louis a few days ago. They were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Loco-motive Works of Philadelphia. They are of the Mikado type and are among the largest and most powerful of that class in service on any railroad In the country. Each weighs 400,000 pounds when equipped for service, and measures meas-ures 78 feet, -4 1-2 inches In length and 15 feet, 5 1-2 Inches In height. Tho cylinders measure 27x30 inches, and the boilers have a steam pressure capacity of 170 pounds to the square Inch. The weight on the main driving driv-ing wheels is 209,000 pounds, and the engines have a tractive force of 50,-160 50,-160 pounds. They are equipped with electric headlights, electric cab lights and Schmidt superheaters. Eight of the engines have been assigned as-signed to service on the Joplln division, divi-sion, three to the eastern division, eight to the Omaha division, and six to tho Southern Kansas division. |
