Show DEAF SCHOOL DELIGHTED CUTLER GOVERNOR PAYS PLEASANT VISIT TO institution state officials see methods of teaching afflicted ones jn operation and compliment teachers from saturdays standard is the word that expressed the feelings of governor cutler and his party after they had completed their tour of inspection of the state school tor the deaf and the blind and u state industrial school yesterday and the governor and each member ot the party placed themselves on record as being greatly pleased at what they had seen at tho two schools and ot the good management that was evidenced in their conduct governor cutler attorney general M A breeden superintendent of public institutions A C nelson stale auditor J A edwards slate treasurer james christensen judge brown ot the juvenile court ot salt lake harry joseph ot the board ot trustees of the state industrial school the rev mr simpkin and judges mccarty and of tho supreme court arrived in the city at noon and the party with the exception of mr joseph were driven at once to the state school for the deat and blind here they were met by superintendent draggs the members of the board of trustees of the school miss babcock fred V chambers mrs A B corey and charles ross bishop watson for six years a member ot the board was also present after a brief lest the visitors were taken to the school for the deaf where tho classes were in session and where the methods tor educating the deaf children were the dining room was next visited the children being assembled for their noon day meal after prayer bythe rev mr simpkin governor cutler spoke to the pupils of the school complimenting them on what he had seen and on the management of the school dinner was served to the guests in the superintendents dining room after which the inspection was resumed the school for the blind was the farst place visited and the pupils in the school rooms there illustrated the methods employed in the school for tue education of blind children at the gymnasium sixteen deaf garla gave a drill under the direction of mrs charles ross and from there the party went to the manual training department part ment of the school where the work of the pupils in different lines was demonstrated at 3 the visitors left for the state industrial school in carriage at the latter school the battalion of cabets cadets bad been drawn up to receive the governor and upon the arrival of the party on the grounds the governors salute was fired after which the general was sounded the members ot the board of trustees of the school dr conroy harry josephs and T B evans were present to greet the members of the party and escort them about the institution the school rooms were visited where the pupils were in attendance and special attention was given to tho work in manual training done at the school especially the printing office which has been established and in which the boys seem greatly interested A vist was paid to a nearby spring which tho board ot trustees are considering si as a source of a water supply for the school the trustees outlined to the governor their plans for giving the school a water supply that would assure an ample supply of fresh water for all purposes upon the return of the party to the school the pupils were assembled and the governor judge brown and harry joseph spoke to them admonishing them to be faithful in their duties and to be obedient to the superintendent and hla the party left for the city shortly after C and returned to salt lake on the evening train all expressed themselves as being greatly pleased with the work being done at the two institutions and said they believed belr eved both were in their alt erent spheres doing a great aduca ional work |
