| Show SELLING PURE LINEN A trio of peddlers who are perpetrating a fraud i A woman and two young men are canvassing the city selling what they claim to be rare irish linen A sample ot the goods was shown to several experts in linen last night and they pronounced the cloth to be mercerized zed cotton with a linen finish such as may be purchased in any of the dry good stores at 1212 cents a yard A number of people have been taken in by the trio and hae purchased the goods believing that they were buying the pure linen at a bargain the first time that they have the cloth washed they will discover their mistake for the ara ton the prospective purchaser Is approached pro ached by one of the trio and la told that they have a bolt of pure linen which they wish to sell stating that they are desirous of leaving the city as soon us possible and that for that reason will sell the cloth a a bargain the bolt 20 yards of cloth and the price asked Is 8 but it that amount Is considered high by the purchaser the price Is lowered and it is known that in one case a bolt of the cloth was sold for even this price Is exorbitant as ehfe same class of goods may be purchased in the local dry gooda store tor not more than for a bolt of 20 yards where the people came from or where they obtained the goods that they are selling Is not known but in selling the cloth as pure linen they are obtaining money under false pretenses as well as violating the city ordinance in regard to peddling with out a license people will do well to beware of these people as they are misrepresenting the goods they stave tor sale and are selling an article that can ba obtained at any sterei for one third less than they ask UNITING pacific STATES portland ore aug 23 rufus P jennings of california has returned to portland from seattle and tacoma while in tacoma and seattle mr jen nines suggested to the business men of those cities th advisability of a closer interest between the commercial bodies of pie pacific the people of washington are awake to the benefits of co said mr 6 day they will stork with california and oregon and all the other pacific states as one great happy family |
