Show OFFICER HANDED IN resignation LAST NIGHT had trouble with sergeant tout avor which an investigation may be made from wednesdays standard we must have harmony and preserve the dignity of the force said chief of police browning last evening in an interview concerning tha resignation of officer N A herrack Herr lck which vis handed in last and which became effective immediately herrack did not work his regular shift last night and when gesn by a reporter stated that he had nothing to say at the present time on the case as it would all come out later on Us admitted however that be had resigned from the force and ached that he be excused from commenting further on the matter chief browning stated that the whole question had been brewing tor some time and at first was between officer herrack and fred tout the newly appointed sergeant it appears that her alck thought tout responsible for some information reaching the chiefs ears which resulted in the former being laid off tor a short time touts promotion to the deemed to precipitate matters which would some time have come to a head any way A couple of conferences were held between the men and finally the case was presented to the chief from the statement made by chief browning it seems herrick admitted that the whole trouble with tout arose from the above named cause which ho said had since proven groundless this settled the matter so far as tout was concerned mr browning then asked the officer to substantiate several statements that he bad made to outsiders concerning things that tout bad done emphasizing the fact that the dignity of the force demanded that he prove these charges or withdraw from the force after some deliberation sir herrick decided to resign rather than go to the trouble of proving the things referred to since that time it is stated that ne has hinted at an investigation at which all will ba brought to light chief browning stated that he did not at this time place any credence in the charges made by mr herrick and that he would insist in having harmony among the men on the force as it was necessary to the dignity and success of the department sergeant tout was non tive on the subject last evening simply stating that he had nothing to say mr herrick has been a member ot the local force for about two and one halt years and prior to the above trouble was considered a good man tor the position |
