Show LABORER BEATEN NEARLVTO DEATH Salt Lake, July IS. Robbed and bleeding from half a dozen wounds in his head, Inflicted by the metal end of a railroad car hose in the hnfls of a thug, Slvcstro Leppl, an Italian laborer, la-borer, was found in a patch of weedo between oFurth and Fifth South on Fitth West, near the Pernor & Rio Grande yards, by M. H Leute, foreman fore-man painter for the Denver &. Rio Grande shortly before radinight last night. Leute was attracted to the SPQt by the groans of the victim. Lep-pi Lep-pi is seriously, probably fatally In- jured. Thirty minutes later a man who gave his name as Louis McAlplne, was arrested by Patrolman N. P Pierce and Mounted Policemen Wllley and Crosby, at the corner of Fourth West and Second South streets, Just ln front of the Albany bar. The man was counting money held in the palm of his hand when he was apprehended. He had $15 In gold and $2 in silver. In the meantime Leppl had been sent in tho patrol wagon to thp emergency emer-gency hospital by Patrolman Pierce There he was attended to by Dr H. B Sprague. Though he had not lost consciousness entirely, Loppl's head was found to be fractured in several places, nnd the scalp gashed many tjmes, showing tlu$ c number of blows must have been struck with the deadly dead-ly weapon which had been found pear the spot where Loppi was lying. When searched at the police station McAlpine's shirt was found saturated with blood. |
