Show ENGINEERS WANT RAISE IN' WAGES New York, July IS. Engineers whp operate heavy traction locomotives of the Mallot type, a combination of two ordinary locomotives, were witnesses called at the morning session at Manhattan Man-hattan Beach of the arbitration commission, com-mission, which is seeking to adjust the wages of engineers. Warren S. Stone, chief of the locomotive engineers, engi-neers, placed the men on the stand to show how the advance In modern railroading had added to the duties and responsibilities of the men at the throttle. Ho brought out the fact that many of tho railroads had coupled cou-pled together two heavy freight engines en-gines to form one monster locomotive locomo-tive which could be operated by a single engineer. He said this engineer with double responsibilities Is paid only a slight advance over what he received on a single engine. The men asked that $7 a day he paid for this work. oo |
