Show oo MONEY THAT WENT BEGGING Ono of the Most Curlouc Cases In the History of the Chancery Courts. PerhapB there Is no more curious chapter In the history of tho chancery chan-cery courts than that of two Pittsburgh Pitts-burgh men. The- first had a claim to a small estate abroad, but he did not have the money to pay tho claim agency to make a search. So he got a friend to back him. This friend's name was Peterman, and the money h advanced wa3 like a grubstake he was gambling on his friend's claim proving up. Ono day, when Peterman waa at the claim-agency office, ho came upon this advertisement In tho agency flies: "Peterman (Albertus), musician, born In Amsterdam, 1829, ton of Charles Frederick and Henrietta Henri-etta Suzanna Gasman. Loft for Liverpool, Liver-pool, 1866. lie is sought for inheritance inheri-tance by M. Contot, advocat, 21 Boulevard Bou-levard St. Gorraaln, Paris." That was the inception of tho famous "KInsoy docks" case, the name coming from tho fRct that th original Peterman was last seen at the KInsey docks In Liverpool. The claim agency took tho matter in hand, traced Pcterman's lineage lin-eage back, and enabled blm to establish estab-lish a good claim to an inheritance of 3200,000. That waB a case of fortune being thrust upon a man. Lewis Edwin Ed-win Thelss, in Harper'a Weekly. |
