Dame and J R Nutt were In the city this morning conferring confer-ring with President David Eccles of the Ogden Rapid Transit company regarding re-garding tho purchase of his electric power plants In Box Elder and Cache counties. Senator Smoot stated that It is planned by the company represented by Mr. Dame and Mr. Nutt of New York to purchase all the independent power plants In Utah and southern Idaho, with a view to consolidating thom and generating 125,000 horsepower horse-power By consolidating the powor plants It will bo possible to furnish the people electricity for light, heat and power purposes for less money than in any other part of the United States "This company has no thought of buying railroads or Intorurban electric elec-tric lines," said the senator "We simply want to get into the electrical power business in this country on a largo scale, and, In my Judgment, it will do a great deal toward the moro rapid development in all commercial and industrial enterprises If success attends the effort The company does not expect to purchase the power plants of the Utah Light & Railwaj company. That company has use for Its power and it is inoro than likely that it would not sell at any price. That may be true, too, of the Eccles Interests Mr. Eccles has a car system, sys-tem, and, unless tho company can assure as-sure him that It can furnish power for less money than he can make It for himself, he likely -would not sell "The company has virtually closed a deal for the purchase of the Knight plants In Utnh and Salt Lake counties, coun-ties, and It is simply a matter of drawing up legal papers to close tho deal for the purchase of the Tellurlde Power & Transmission company's series se-ries of plants leading from Grace, Ida., to Pro An option on the RIverdalo plant of tho Davis & Weber Counties' Canal company Is held. There Is unlimited un-limited capital back of the enterprise and much money will be spent." Speaking of politics, Scnntor Smoot said that he thinks there Is no doubt but that President Taft -will be reelected re-elected and that Mr Roosevelt will not get many electoral votes He said "Teddy" will do well If he captures the electoral vote of California. The senator will remain in the stato for a few weeks and undertake to rest up a little He says he has a great deal to do In the printing department at "Washington, and that when he returned re-turned home he really felt tired out.
