The lotter In part follows: "It would give me pleasure to be present and to express my entire sympathy with projects that look towards to-wards the opening up and the systematic sys-tematic connection of our great water courses and their preparation for navigation nav-igation on a great scale. "It has undoubtedly become necessary neces-sary that wo should reconsider our whole transportation problem in view of tho developments which are sure to follow immediately upon the opening open-ing of the Panama canal. We have J become aware, in recent years, that our transportation facilities were not equal to the groat demands made upon them by the enormous movements of trade within tho country. Our trade must have open wayB Our water courses must be linked and, where necessary, deepened. We must broaden and multiply the channels of our commerce." |
