S McCarthy, R, J. Shealy and Georgo Rust to investignto tho matter of applications ap-plications and franchises for spur r It was sot forth at.the meeting that , W. F Culmer and numerous other interests in-terests owning factories In tins city had applied for franchises for spur tracks from a raihoad lino to their factory sites, but that tho iailroads were opposing the moves on the ground that the commission demanded a payment equivalent to lental as one of tho conditions. The sub-comnut-tco pioposes to Investigate what differences dif-ferences may ovist, following which the club's general committee will take action. A report was leceived from the sub-committoo that investigated an .article to tho effect that the Bruns-wick-Balko-Collender company of , New York closed down Its Salt Lake plnnt on account of the freight rates reduction. It was reported that the statements made In tho artlclo wore untrue. .The matter has been referred refer-red to President Robert S. Lovctt of tho Harrimau system, asking him to define the policy of the railroad In regard to such matters. It was un derstood that the publicity department depart-ment of tho Oregon Short L-lno wit3 lesponsible for tho article. A favorable report on tho Gorman automatic and safely faucet was adopted.
