UPON VICTIM With his face burned by the flnre of po'wder from tho muzzle of a revolver re-volver held In tho hand of a highwayman, highway-man, who fired almost point blank at him, Gus Nelson, a young man of this city, presented himself at one of the drug stores last night where he told tho story of the attempted robbery, which took place at 10: -10 o'clockat the corner of Washington avenue and Twenty-third street According to Nelson's story he was on his way homo and was stopped at tlie Twenty-third street corner by a young man wearing a black overcoat. The man who accosted him ordered him to throw up his hands but Instead of complying, Nelson made an effort to seize the holdup man. Quick as a flash the hiyhwayman fired, Nelson's hand knocking the revolver barrel sideways so that the bullet passed over his right shoulder. The right side of Nelson's face was badly powder-burnL In tho moment of confusion con-fusion tho robber fled. Officer Peterson was notified by the young man of the shooting and attempted at-tempted to follow the fleeing highwayman, high-wayman, but was unablo to follow his trail.
