Show WAS ORIGINATOR OF LOOP THE LOOP New York, Sept. 26 C. D. Clarke, the amateur avlutor who was killed ! at Nassau boulevard yesterday, was I formerly a well-known professional I bicycle rlded. He was the originator of the "loop tho - loop"performance, which has thrilled' hundreds of circus audiences. Clarke's real name was Charles Clarke Bunting. Ho was born In Tennessee and when a vory young man went to Kansas City to live. Aft-or Aft-or taking a medical degree at the University of Chicago, he practiced In Kansas City until he was 27 years old. When the bicycle first came Into common uso, ho became so proficient pro-ficient In trick riding that he accepted accept-ed an offer to do circus tricks' and vaudeville acts. Nino years ago he came to Now York and at the Madison Square Garden Gar-den started his "looping the gap," followed a year -later by the "loop the loop." When tho automobile came Into uso ho looped a narrow board loop with a racing machine. Ho married Bertha Clarke, now playing with a circus. In 1905. Ho was president of a manufacturing company of this city and his invention inven-tion of an overhead automobile washer wash-er for garages Is In general use. oo |
