Show SMALL CONSUMPTION OF COTTON IN UNITED STATES. Washington, Sept. 26. There was an increase of more than 12 per cent in the supply of raw cotton in tho United States during the cotton year which endod Auust 13. 1911. according accord-ing to the census bureau's preliminary report on tho supply and distribution of cotton iosued today. The supply amounted to 13,655,479 hales,- com pared with 12,188,021 bales for tho previous year, when there was a decrease de-crease of 20 per cent from that available avail-able In 1909. Notwithstanding the Increase In tho total supply, the consumption of cot-, ton In the United States showed a decrease of sllghtlv more than 2 per cent over last yoar, and was the smallest consumption for three years, It being 4,696,316 bales. Jt was said semi-offlcially that the high price of raw cotton during tho year was prln-i prln-i cipally tho cause for the decreased consumption. During the cotton year the exports were 22 per cent greater than during 1910. |
