Show uv THE LADYLIKE FOURTH. (A. J. Waterhouse in S. "F. Suir.) 1 have no patience with that "safe and sauo Fourth" at the shrine of which so many now worship, r am not so young as I once was, but my rocolection of my bojhood is not dim, and, so recollecting. 1 know that in depriving our boys of the good old Fourth of racket and noise wo aro taking from them more of that spirit which rosults in patriotism, or love of country, than can.be added ln any other 40 days of the year 'Boys, I am with you. What you de-siro de-siro is a day of tho racket that breeds patriotism in boyish souls, and I desire It for you not to mention myself Of course. It would be right, to put some strings on your youthful WM exuberance, to do away with the t IH thoroughly dangerous Items, but that WM could be done, as it should bo done, uM and still leave you a day that would , H make you better understand that 1 H thoBe old fellows of 1776 and there- j H after did things worth while. i M nn I |
