Show H THE AUTOMOBILE PARTY. H The following is a news item from tins' morning's Salt Lake B Tribune : ;l!h. H m v Nine millionaire auto tourists, with a party of forty H guests, are due to arrive at the Ilotel Utah some time today. M but last night they had not been reported at Kemmcrcr. so H it is doubtful if they can get to Salt iLake until Saturday. M The motorists, all driving their own ears, arc making H " a trip from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific. H Mayor John S. Bransford, Chief of Police Samuel M. M Barlow and one of the city councilmen. probably the chair- fl man, W. Mont Ferry, will be taken out to meet the autonio- H bile tourists by Frank BotterilL They will meet the visitors Hi at Coalville and escort them into the city. A number of H auloists will be on the welcoming delegation. H The Commercial club of the capital is neither somnambulistic H nor dead, and we dotf our hat to the wide-awake fellows of that or- H gani.ation who have the daring to invade this part of the state and, Hl heading off a party of tourists moving in the direction of Ogden, M pilot the strangers to Salt Lake. M The Salt Lakers have a faculty of reaching out for everything H in sight which is their right, and a right the' will continue to as- Hj sert, with more or less success, while they are unopposed. They are H like the big fellow rushing through a crowd to get a seat in a train, Hl who pushes the little fellow aside, elbowing himself to the car steps. H They say the race is not always to the swift, which is true. Those H who can jockey their rivals out of position and can get away while H their competitors arc coming out of a dazeel condition arc certain H to H "We admire the energy and push of our neighbors who, though H out of the direct line of automobile and railroad travel, never grow H discouraged. H Our friends do not wait for themountain to move to them; they Hj go out to the mountain and proceed to dedicate it to their purpose, H saying, "Immovable mountain, thou art a skyscraper after our own H kind and worthy of annexation. Be thou annexed and absorbed. H Amen. H Fortunately, the Salt Lake boosters, in this instanco. are a little Hl premature and, as a result, their plans may fail. The big automobile H caravan did not leave Rawlins, 334 miles east of Ogden, until this H morning. The travelers will make Rock Spring, 222 miles frjom here, H this evening, Evanston on Saturday and Ogden some time Sunday. H Jf the annexationists" arc to meet them at Coalville, a delegation H from Ogden should shake hands with ,(vhc millionaires at Evanston H and offer to convey them to Ogden canyon or some other refreshing, Hj delightful spot in or around this city. H If necessary, a travel-worn string of autos could be sent to Hj Coalvillo from Ogden, in charge of some clever impersonators. The Hl 'mayor and chief of police of Salt Lake might be so directed as to H meet the decoy and proceed in the direction of Salt Lake. That H would be a ruse we all could enjoy and a fitting climax to the rival- H ry of the two cities. |
