Show VEATHER BUREAU IS CONSULTED BY AVIATORS Chicago, Aug. 12. When the date of the International aviation meet in this city was being contomplated, Harold F McCormlck, one of rhe chief promoters pro-moters of tho meet, went to Prof. Henry J. Cox. hoad of tho Chicago ofllce of tho weather bureau, for ad-rice. ad-rice. Mr. McCormick had contemplated contem-plated a date after the middle of July, but examination of the records showed that many storms had oc-cured oc-cured at that period In previous years, so the middle of August, was selected instead When the July days originally contemplated con-templated for the opening came, rain was falling in torrents, The next day it rained, and during the next week considerable more fell. Mr McCormlck McCor-mlck telephoned the weather bureau and expressed his thanks fo.r tho advice ad-vice that had saved the meet. "I'm glad I accepted your advice," he said. "I hope you will fel the same way in August," responded Mr. Cox. Cox is an enthusiastic air fan "and has done a good deal of "rooting" for fair weather. |
