Show tIIoIKlAIlI) Firemen of Troy, N. Y., Break Up a Meeting in That City Troy, N. Y-, Aug. 12. Local Socialists Social-ists and the firemen of this city are at open war owing to remarks made iccently at a Socialist mass meeting lelatlve to the firemen, which the later lat-er say were Insulting. A few days Intei another meeting was held In the mtblfc square not far from one of tho fire houses, and the firemen retaliated by making such a din that they bioke up the gathering. The Socialists complained to the mayor and last night, when another meeting was scheduled in 'the same place, the police reserves were on hand to maintain order. The firemen were not frightened by this display of force, however. When the spealcci of the meeting was introduced intro-duced a nerve-racking din commenced on the roof of the house Tin pans, rattles, fire cornets, automobile horns and other devices were brought into commission. After several ineffectual efforts to make himself heard, the speaker announced an-nounced that the meeting would continue con-tinue further down the street. The firemen followed and continued tho racket until the meeting finally broke up. The matter will be taken formally before the city officials tonight. oo |
