Show SCHOOL XOTKS The teachers of the elementary school have with the high school teachers been attending Ge teachers' teach-ers' institute at Beaver this week. I The schools have been closed the entire week owing to the institute and the Thanksgiving holidays coming com-ing together. The Milford elementary school has just started the departmental work in the two upper grades. This means that the teachers are teaching the subjects instead of the grades. This gives the teaching corps the 'opportunity of teaching the subjects that they are best qualified to teach, thus giving the pupils the best instruction in-struction that it is possible to give them in each subject with the teaching teach-ing force that is now employed. Not only does it do this, but it makes it possible to get all of the subjects that are prescribed by the State Course of Study into the daily program pro-gram of the school. Some of the subjects that were being left out under un-der the old arrangements were: manual man-ual training, domestic art and nature study. These subjects are now being be-ing taught to the pupils of the fifth and sixth grades. Mr. Davis, the manual training teacher of the high school, is teaching the boys manual training, while Mrs. McAlister, the domestic art teacher of the high school, is teaching the girls domestic art. This gives the pupils of the Milford elementary school the same advantages that any of the largest city school systems can give to the pupils of the city. |
